First Lutheran Church Women

First Lutheran Church Women had a meeting at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 9 in Bethany Hall for its annual Pioneer Day put on by past presidents. Neva Mathison welcomed those in attendance.

Bonnie Schneider gave devotions based on John 13:35, “Loving one another as Christ has loved us.” Bonnie Trampel led the group in reciting the FLCW purpose statement.

Gen Montei introduced Tim O’Shields, minister of music and worship, who presented the program. His topic was conversations with God based on James 1:22, “Be doers of the Word, not just hearers.” Parishioners foundation is the Bible. Using a circle hoop as a visual, he stressed that people choose to either get in or get out — parishioners must surrender, not be lukewarm. Be active, not passive. They need to connect our brothers and sisters in Christ. Tim played and sang several numbers. The group joined in singing “I Surrender All,” and ended with, “Will the Circle be Unbroken.”

Donna Ludtke conducted the business meeting. The secretary’s report was approved as printed with a motion by Jinni Olson and seconded by Joyce Johnson. Treasurer Virginia Hermanson gave a report which will be put on file for audit.

Trampel had received correspondence from “Bible for the World” and a newsletter, “A Word from the Satres,” from Wycliffe Bible Translators.

A reminder to fill out the information change cards and return to the office to update information including phone numbers and email was given.

Schneider announced that the annual lefse bake will be from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 27; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28; and 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 29.

Youth for Christ is conducting weekly Wednesday morning gatherings for students at Southwest Middle School. They are requesting assistance for providing muffins to this group.

Items for school kits should be donated no later than Sept. 30.

Regarding Holidays Ahead, anyone not in a circle or able to come on Mondays to craft sessions is welcome to bring her crafts as donations. The items could be placed on a table with the rest. The next FLC meeting will be at noon Oct. 14 at Reformation Luncheon. Tickets are $5. The program will be Ann Joos with the topic of working with orphans in Tanzania.

The group sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” accompanied by Joan Holt. Ione Kely then gave the offering prayer from the devotional book “Going God’s Way” by Reuben Youngdahl.

Ludtke thanked the following: ushers, Montei and Marge LaFrance; greeters, Marlene Behle, Phyllis Hamborg, Sandy Narverud and Julia Tonder; wheelchair attendants, Virginia Hermanson and Jan Overgaard; hostesses, co-chairpersons Tep Christensen and LaFrance and their committee, Marion Bergemann, Shirlie Brownlow, Diane Damerow, Ann Hanson, Marlene Jensen and Judy Mullen.

Co-chairpersons Helen Lovik and Arlis Smith and their committee served two funerals in August.

The meeting was closed with the group singing the Table Prayer and by praying the Lord’s Prayer.
