Get out this week and support A.L.’s youth

If you have driven around Albert Lea this week, you probably can’t help but notice that it’s Homecoming Week for the Tigers.
Fall is in the air, paw prints are hanging on trees around Fountain Lake and businesses throughout town have decorated their windows in support of the school.
Homecoming Week is a fun time to be a student at any school — and Albert Lea in particular.
Most of the schools have some sort of dress-up days taking place throughout the week, which let the students take a break from their regular routine clothes and wear a little bit quirkier things to school.
On Wednesday, Albert Lea High School will have its parade in downtown Albert Lea. This is the second year the parade will be back downtown, and I hope everyone young and old will take that opportunity to show support for our students. It will be a short parade on North Broadway and all of the sporting and activities groups at the school have been invited to attend.
Student organizers hope this can be a community event that everyone can get excited about.
I know I plan on attending the parade with my two children as I hope to teach them the value of community events. At the same time, I’m sure they will think it’s fun.
On Friday, the Homecoming king and queen will be announced out of a royalty of five boys and five girls, and the football team will play.
If you’re not a fan of football, there are other sporting events taking place this week as well, including the volleyball and boys soccer teams tonight and the girls soccer team on Thursday.
Let us show these high school students we care. After all, they are the future of Albert Lea.
If you are able to attend, the Homecoming parade begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday on North Broadway and goes two blocks south to William Street. The football game begins at 7 p.m. Friday.
Let’s fill the stands!
Support these youth and help that Albert Lea Tiger pride shine.
Go Tigers!
