Albert Lea swimmer hopes to qualify for state in all 4 events
Q: What grade are you in?
A: 12th.
Q: What town do you live in, and which school do you attend?
A: I live in Albert Lea and go to Albert Lea High School.
Q: Who is your immediate family?
A: My mom, Andrea; dad, Tom; sister, Lexie; and brother, Carter Simon.
Q: Which sports do you play?
A: I’m in swimming and golf.
Q: What is your favorite part of being on the swimming team?
A: The people on the team. I’ve made my best friends
through swim.
Q: What has swimming taught you?
A: It’s taught me to work hard for what you want.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: Getting third (as a team) at the state swimming meet last year.
Q: Which game are you looking forward to most this year?
A: Sections. I want to make it to state in all my events this year. Freshman year I made it in one event; sophomore year, two; and junior year, three. This year, I want to make it all four.
Q: How did you get started in swimming?
A: Bailey Sandon talked to me about it in fifth grade.
Q: What are your sports-related achievements?
A: I was (Big Nine) All-Conference sophomore and junior year.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?
A: Missy Franklin. I follow her on Twitter. She’s a backstroker and 200 freestyler. (Franklin is a four-time Olympic gold medalist for the U.S. swimming team.)
Q: What are your college plans? Major?
A: I want to go to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and major in biology.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I want to be a dermatologist.
Q: What is your favorite school subject?
A: Math. I’m taking calculus right now. I love it.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher?
A: Wendy Keszler. She teaches physics and chemistry.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Shopping, hanging out with friends and my family.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”
Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: I broke my toe when I was little because I fell out of a treehouse.
