Albert Lea falls against Fairmont

The Albert Lea football team found the end zone in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from Sam Chalmers to Parker Boyum, but the Tigers fell 35-8 Friday at Fairmont.
“Offensively, we moved the ball, we just shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and mistakes,” said Albert Lea coach Kevin Armbrust.
Junior quarterback Sam Chalmers started the game behind center for the Tigers in place of Jake Kilby, who was utilized as a wideout.
Chalmers completed 6 of 12 passes for 53 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Kilby caught two passes for 10 yards.
Dylan Lestrud led Albert Lea’s receiving corps. with two receptions for 19 yards.
On the ground, Emmitt Stevens posted a team-high 70 yards on 18 carries.
“He did a great job,” Armbrust said. “He was everything that we needed at that position, and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do against St. Peter.”
Defensively, Tristan Johnston led the Tigers with 12 tackles; Sean Brownlow added seven.
Next, Albert Lea (0-7, 0-7 South Central Red) will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter (4-3, 3-3 South Central Red). The Saints lost 35-7 Friday at Belle Plaine (5-2, 4-2 South Central Red).
