Waldorf hockey shut out at Midland

Midland secured its second shutout of the season, handing the Waldorf hockey team a 4-0 loss Friday in Fremont, Nebraska, according to a press release.
The matchup marked the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Midland (5-0), which is an American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I program, now owns a 4-3 edge in the all-time series after dropping three of the four contests to Division II’s Waldorf (4-3) last season.
Midland scored two goals in each of the final two periods.
Zach Voss struck first for Midland, scoring unassisted 13 seconds into the second period. Sam Turner added a goal in the sixth minute off assists from Jason Henry and Ben Henry.
Midland tacked on its final two goals less than a minute apart in the third period. Jarrett Stark boosted Midland to a three-goal advantage in the eighth minute following an assist from Blair Seitz. Fifty-five seconds later, Bradley Hepler converted on a power play while Turner contributed the assist.
Midland totaled 16 penalty minutes while allowing five power plays. Despite being shorthanded due to penalty through stretches of the game, Midland outshot Waldorf 38-28.
Waldorf sophomore goaltender Ronald Paulson recorded 34 saves. Midland’s Jarin Aden finished with 28 saves while helping his team take a 3-0 lead in the four-game season series.
Waldorf attempted to deny Midland a season sweep when the two teams took the ice for the final time of the season on Saturday. Look for results from that contest in Monday’s Tribune.
