Carroll Sprenger, 1934-2015

Funeral services for Carroll Feodor Sprenger will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake in rural Albert Lea. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Concordia Lutheran Pickerel Lake Cemetery.
Carroll F. Sprenger passed away Monday evening, Sept. 28, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. He was 80.
Carroll was born to Feodor and Ruth (Schoenrock) Sprenger on Dec. 9, 1934, in Albert Lea. He was raised with a strong faith in God, baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake and has been a devout member his whole life. He grew up in Conger and attended the one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade. In 1952, he graduated from Albert Lea High School. In July of 1955, Carrol was drafted into the military and stationed in Korea. He received an honorable discharge in April of 1957.
Carroll’s love of trains fueled his career as a brakeman for the Chicago Central & Pacific Railroad in Waterloo, Iowa. On his weekends, he traveled home to be with his parents and take care of them as they aged. During his free time, Carroll loved traveling and taking several road trips to visit his family members near and far. He loved spending time with his family and watching his favorite sports teams: the Twins, Gophers and Vikings
Those left to cherish Carroll’s memory include his brother, Gordon M. (Dee) Sprenger; brother-in-law, Clem Dohmeier; nephews, Tom (Mary) Dohmeier, Steve (Denise) Dohmeier, Joel (Laura) Dohmeier, Mike (Marit) Sprenger; nieces, Kris (Matt) Anderson, Angie (Eric) Askegaard; 12 great-nephews; and 10 great-nieces. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Feodor and Ruth, and his sister, Geraldine Dohmeier.
