United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women met Sept. 2. Jeanne Hangge, Judy Kary and Jerry Horswell of Grace Circle presented the program from the book, “Then Sings My Soul.” The book gave the scriptures origins and the history of the composers of some of the favorite hymns. The group sang the hymns, “Amazing Grace,” “Fairest Lord Jesus,” “This is My Father’s World,” “God Will Take Care of You,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”

President Horswell opened the meeting by thanking Just Three Circle for serving and Mary Grace Circle for the program.

The secretary’s report and circle attendance was given by JoAnn Seuser.

Ruth Vermedahl gave the treasurer’s report and said she had paid the Southern Prairies United Methodist Women dues and the balance of the group’s balance to Emma Norton Services.

Spiritual Growth Person Adean Turner read several scriptures from the Bible. Sharon Nelson, social action person, shared how the bond of friendship helps women in times of loss.

Sunshine chairwoman Kary reported seven cards were sent this month.

Marcia Moyer asked for volunteers and desserts for serving at St. John’s.

The next meeting was at 9:30 a.m. for coffee followed by a program at 10 a.m. Oct. 7. Hope Circle served and Martha Circle had the program. Principal Steve Kovach and social worker Reese Drunkenmiller of Southwest Middle School discussed the needs of students.

 

TOPS MN 979

The TOPS MN 979 organization has announced its August and September division winners.

August division winners were LeAnn Jones, Division 2; Darlene Hauge, Division 3; and Katie Koziolek, Division 4.

Weekly biggest losers for August were Caroline Sorenson and Judy Thorson, week one; Judy Thorson and Shirley Schuster, week two; Pat Sorenson, week three; and Darlene Kenison, week four.

Nancy Jensen earned a coin shower.

September division winners were Jones, Division 2 and Rose Rolands, Division 3.

Quarterly KOPS in Blck were Ardis Bang, Peggy Indrelie and Jenson.

Weekly biggest losers for September were Koziolek and Jones, week one; Jones, week two; Rolands, week three and Janice Schroeder, Jones and Rolands, week four.

Summer contest winners were Jones, first place; Lois Stenzel, second place and other winners were Mindy Christenson, Elayne Wichmann, Kenison, Thorson and Hauge. KOPS winners were Bang, Jenson and Indrelie.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit weight-loss support group. There is no diet plan but support with others on the journey to health and wellness. TOPS Minnestota 979 meets Thursday mornings at the Senior Center in the Skyline Plaza to weigh-in and learn about healthy lifestyles.

 

Lens and Shutter Photography Club

Lens and Shutter Photography Club had a meeting Sept. 17 in the lower level of Mayo Clinic Health System Room 465. There were 11 members in attendance. Bonnie Williamson was a guest.

September’s competition category was parks. Mitch Pederson received first place for his entry titled, “Denmark Park Foundation.”

Darcy Sime received second place for, “Rainbow Falls at Yellowstone.”

Jim Wendel received third place for, “Falls at Nerstrand.”

Members receiving honorable mentions on their entries were Sime and Linda Eisterhold who received two honorable mentions. Merit awards were given to John Eisterhold and Wendel.

Pederson gave a demonstration on high dynamic range photography.

Refreshments were provided by the evening’s host which was Pederson.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 465 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Wendel will present a demonstration on photo elements.

The club displays pictures in the lobby of Farmers State Bank at 1452 W. Main St. in Albert Lea. Anyone who like more information on the group, including how to join, can call 373-2862.
