Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Symposium scheduled

The fourth annual Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Cancer Education Symposium will be from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 7 at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club, 2200 W. Ninth St. in Albert Lea. There is no charge for the event and brunch will be provided for those in attendance.

According to a press release, those in attendance will learn about the latest in treatment, research and surviving cancer. Presenters include Sergio Gradlione of The Hormel Institute, who will discuss his research on better ways to treat bile duct cancer, which currently has limited treatment options. He and his team are hopeful their discoveries can be applied to other liver diseases and other forms of cancer, such as breast, kidney, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

Additional speakers include Doug Smith, an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will also speak on how patients can transform pain and suffering to make them better, fuller human beings and Chuck Rudoloph, a native of Fairmont, who will share his cancer journey which he details in his book, “A Journey Through Cancer: With Faith and Hope.”

Timothy Kozelsky, a radiation oncologist on the Albert Lea campus of Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin, will emcee the symposium.

The symposium is possible due to the generosity of The Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Family Foundation who wished to honor their parents in the community where they lived and worked, while simultaneously recognizing the quality care they received from the medical center in Albert Lea.
