USC’s Legred advances at state

United South Central senior Kia Legred went .500 on the opening day of the Class A state girls’ tennis singles tournament.
After a 6-0, 6-0 first-round loss to Trinity’s Katie Mulvey, Legred rebounded with a 6-4, 6-2 win over LeSueur-Henderson’s Carlie Brandt in the consolation quarterfinals Thursday at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Legred qualified for state with doubles partner Linsey Thisius last year and in 2013. Legred also was part of the Rebels squad that qualified for state as a team in 2013.
Next, Legred will face Ashley Kraemer of Osakis in the consolation semifinals at 8 a.m. today. The consolation championship match will be at 11:30 a.m. today.
