Talent sought for amateur contest

A talent contest open to all amateur entertainers will be featured during the 2009 Freeborn County Fair. Contestants must reside in Freeborn County. The winner in each division of the contest will advance to semi-final competition held during the first 10 days of the 2009 Minnesota State Fair.
The contest will feature three divisions: Pre-Teen, open to contestants ages 12 and under; Teen, open to contestants ages 13-18; and Open, open to contestants of any age.
The contest will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, on the stage in front of Entertainment Square on the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.
There is a time limit of four minutes for each act and points will be deducted for contestants going over this time limit.
A full-size keyboard will be available; however, contestants must provide their own accompanist. There will be no backup band. Vocalists may use taped accompaniment; however, absolutely no background vocals will be allowed on tape. A sound system will be provided and a sound technician will be on hand to assist with any special needs.
First, second and third places will be awarded in each division. The first place winner in each division will be eligible to compete in the semi-finals at the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest.
Prize money will be awarded as follows in each division: first place, $75; second place, $60; and third place, $50.
Entries will be limited and contestants must submit an entry form to the talent contest coordinator.
