GENEVA — The 31st annual Wild Game Feed is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Geneva Bar and Grill.

The event has not only withstood the test of time, but has garnered the support of each of the owners of the bar throughout that time. While the establishment does not organize the event, owner Chelsea Hanson said they are a contributor and allow their property to be used as a hub for the day’s activities, which include a gun raffle.

The raffle kicks off at 10 a.m. According to Wild Game Feed committee member Steve Bailey, 65 tickets will be sold for each round of the raffle. The winner of each of those individual rounds will then choose their prize from among the more than 70 guns that will be up for grabs throughout the day. You must be present to win and background checks will be done on site before winners are allowed to leave with their prize.

The buffet-style game feed will begin at 11 a.m. Donated meats such as alligator, venison, pheasant, duck, rabbit, elk and buffalo will be served along with stuffing, chili and tacos. Hanson said items could be added as donations often pour in until the time of the event, which will take place in a heated tent in the bar’s parking lot with several picnic tables.

The extra space is definitely needed. Bailey has been a part of the traditional game feed almost every year. In its infancy, it consisted of a card table, pool table and a dozen slow cookers inside the bar. Attendance to the event has grown considerably. Bailey estimated there could be more than 900 people coming to Geneva for the feed, which typically raises about $16,000 to $18,000 for the Geneva Cancer Auction. In addition to the feed, various other events are held throughout the year. Those proceeds are collectively donated to the Eagles Cancer Telethon in Rochester.

The telethon helps cancer patients and their families with treatment and funds research at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, Hormel Institute and the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center. Last year alone the Geneva Cancer Auction gave approximately $100,000 to the charity.

The Geneva Wild Game Feed will be accepting good will donations. The suggested donation is a minimum of $5 per person. The Geneva Bar and Grill is at 101 W. Main St.
