Getting ready for a new year with new goals

It’s the end of another year, and with that comes reflection over the past year and how I would like things to improve for the next.
It was almost a year ago that I took over as managing editor after former editor Tim Engstrom was promoted to be publisher at the Fergus Falls Daily Journal.
I must say it has been a busy year getting used to my new responsibilities and even more so, dealing with some of the staff openings we have had. Unfortunately, we haven’t always been able to cover everything we might have liked.
While I enjoy my new job, I must say I miss some aspects of my old job as a reporter, especially some of the routines I had in place and the more regular contact — sometimes even daily — I had with some of my sources.
Though things are different and we have some new people on staff, I hope the newspaper can continue to be a valuable source of information for the community.
Looking ahead, I am working diligently to try to find replacements for Special Sections Editor Hannah Dillon and Sports Editor Micah Bader, and I appreciate the patience we have received from the community as we work toward this.
I hope that once we get back up to full staff, we can continue to grow the paper.
I also hope to develop additional relationships with people in the community, and I encourage you to contact me if you ever have story ideas or suggestions for improvement.
As our publisher, Crystal Miller, always says, this is your newspaper, and we just have stewardship over it right now.
We want to know what you want to read.
Aside from work, I also have some other goals that I’d like to achieve this year in my own personal life.
Like many, I hope to get back on track with healthy eating and living. All the stresses of life have gotten to me the last few months this year, and it’s time to correct my path.
I plan on participating in some community challenges to encourage me, and I would ask that if you see me in the community that you ask me how that is going. I know it’s not an easy task, so I appreciate the support.
What are your goals going to be this year? Whatever they may be, I wish you the best in achieving them.
