Weather service warns people to take precautions
Dangerous wind chills are expected to return to the area tonight and early Saturday as the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for most of central and southern Minnesota.
Gusty winds combined with falling temperatures into the single digits to teens below zero will create wind chill values of 25 to 35 degrees below zero, according to the Weather Service.
The wind chill advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The coldest wind chills are expected around 9 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Weather Service, the cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
The agency warned people to take precautions to avoid frostbite and hypothermia, including wearing a hat and gloves.
Freeborn County and much of the surrounding area are also under a hazardous weather outlook because of the temperatures.
The seven-day forecast calls for temperatures increasing on Tuesday to 10 degrees and increasing further to 19 degrees Thursday.
