Albert Lea edged Austin basketball 25 years ago
50 years ago: 1966
The Wells High School basketball team raised its season record to 6-3 with a 49-43 victory over Montgomery. The Wildcats were led by Tom Colby with 14 points and John Jimenez with 12.
Dan Doty scored 30 points and had 19 rebounds for the Albert Lea High School basketball team in its 75-61 win against Northfield. Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers were Hollis Grorud with 11 points and Steve Ball with 10.
Ellendale improved its Gopher Conference record to 6-1 after defeating Janesville 91-76. Duane Nelson scored 23 points and Daryl Paulsen scored 20 points for the Raiders.
Roger Bang scored 16 points and Don Brackey 14 in a 58-57 basketball win over Forest City. The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 in the North Iowa Conference.
25 years ago: 1966
ALHS defeated Austin 68-67 in a Big Nine Conference basketball game. Chad Hinz scored 14 points, and Paul Bisek and Aaron Davis each had 11 points for the Tigers.
Pam Stoltz scored 18 points and also scored her 1,000th career point for ALHS in a 55-52 loss to Rochester Mayo.
The Alden-Conger-Freeborn basketball team defeated South Central 58-43 behind 24 points by Aaron Phillips and 18 by Kirk Peterson.
Stacia Schroeder and Kelly Peterson each scored 15 points for Glenville-Emmons in its 48-40 win over Medford.
10 years ago: 2006
The Alden-Conger girls won their first basketball game in the Valley Conference 47-34 over Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial. The Knights were led by Emily Appel with 11 points and seven blocks and Vanessa Politz with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Traci Nelson scored her 1,000th career point for NRHEG in its 61-48 win against United South Central. Alison Anderson led the scoring for the Panthers with 13 points. Rebecca Leland had 14 points and Kallie Rollenhagen 13 for USC.
Goals by Mark Walton (two), Mike Larson, Dustin Arendt and Casey Woodside led the ALHS hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Faribault.
