MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Gophers have swept the Big Ten weekly hockey awards.
The university said Tuesday that three Gopher players were honored by the conference for their performances in last weekend’s sweep over Wisconsin.
Defenseman Michael Brodzinski was named Big Ten First Star of the Week. Junior forward Hudson Fasching was the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, while freshman goaltender Eric Schierhorn was the conference’s Third Star of the Week.
Minnesota shut out the Badgers 4-0 Friday and followed with a 9-2 win on Saturday. Brodzinski posted an assist Friday and his first career hat trick Saturday. Fasching had two goals and three assists over the weekend, while Schierhorn made 54 saves in the two games.
It was the second time Minnesota has swept the Big Ten weekly awards.
