The National Weather Service has elevated the blizzard watch for Albert Lea to a blizzard warning.
The blizzard warning is in effect for much of south central Minnesota, including New Ulm, Mankato, Fairmont and Albert Lea, including interstates 35 and 90.
According to the Weather Service, deep snow pack and additional light snow late this afternoon and overnight will combine with wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph to produce widespread blowing snow and whiteout conditions.
Difficult travel is likely, and road closures are possible. If you must travel, the Weather Service advised having a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
