Arlene died surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea.
A. Arlene Johnson was born July 30, 1921, in Deer Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Ove and Elise “Lizzie” (Olson) Throne. She grew up on various farms in the Northwood area. On Aug. 13, 1953, Arlene married Elmer Johnson in Mason City. They settled in Albert Lea to raise their family. She spent many years caring for and keeping house for extended family when needed. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Arlene’s life was her children — especially her grandchildren. She spent many hours with them. She said, “Kids are her life,” and she was never happier than being with them. They always put a smile on her face.
Survivors include her children Leland (Carla) Johnson, Jerald (Marlene) Johnson, Margaret Flatness, Paul (Vickie) Johnson, Thea (Arden) Flatness and William Johnson; grandchildren Mark, Cindy, Ryan, Jeremy, Corwin, Jennifer, Nathan, Valerie, Brianne, Jordan, Crystal, Carolyn, Cory and Mary Jo; sisters Loretta Hertzog and Talora Grosland; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer, in 1985; son, Jerry; daughter, Joanne, in infancy; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Modderman; son-in-law, Wayne Flatness; sister, Rosetta Throne; and seven brothers, Talford, LuVerne, Orville, Raymond, Harley, Lloyd and Rolland, in infancy.
