Lorraine Christenson, 1924-2016

Lorraine Christensen, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lorraine was born July 10, 1924, to Elmer and Ovedia Matthies in Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. On May 5, 1945, Lorraine was united in marriage to Howard Christensen. Together, they raised two children, Nancy and David.
She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran and especially enjoyed participating in choir, where she sang for 32 years.
She enjoyed family — including her four legged grand dogs and cats. Her life was enriched with many dear friends with whom she enjoyed golf, tennis and entertaining. She enjoyed travel and meeting people. She lived a full and wonderful life.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Grothe of Deephaven; son, David, and his wife, Rachel, of Albert Lea; cousin, Crystal Ferley; nieces; nephews; special friend and caregiver, Gloria Cerda; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and sister, Adeline “Cissy” Carpenter.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Peace and Power, First Lutheran Church Music Department or the Freeborn County Humane Society.
