Two Manchester residents pleaded not guilty in Freeborn County District Court on Thursday to a burglary last month in Albert Lea that resulted in the theft of a car and thousands of dollars worth of other items.

Michael Allen Haukoos, 38, and Brianna Mae Jergens, 22, each entered a provisional not guilty plea to receiving stolen property, a felony, in front of Judge Steven Schwab.

Separate settlement conferences were set for Haukoos and Jergens for May 5. Jury trials were set for July 12, if the case isn’t resolved by then.

According to Freeborn County District Court documents, the burglary was discovered Jan. 13.

A 2009 Cadillac CTS, valued at about $21,000 was missing from the garage, along with two flat-screen televisions, two golf bags with clubs, two safes, a jewelry box and jewelry and some silverware from the house.

Haukoos and Jergens were arrested Feb. 2 in connection with the burglary after a deputy noticed a black Cadillac matching the description of the stolen vehicle parked in the driveway at 113 McKinley St. The license plate on the car had been stolen from the Hy-Vee parking lot the day before.

During a search of the house, officers and deputies found several of the other stolen items and Haukoos was reportedly found hiding under a pile of laundry in the basement.

Jergens reportedly denied knowing about the items found at the house.

Receiving stolen property carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
