3 injured in rollover crashes on interstate

Three Iowa residents were injured over the weekend in separate rollover crashes on Interstate 35 near Clarks Grove.

In the first crash, on Sunday afternoon, Dee Stumphy, 66, and his wife, Mary Stumphy, 66, both of Davenport, Iowa, were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Dee Stumphy was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry south on Interstate 35 when it went off the road and rolled several times at the Clarks Grove exit.

The crash occurred at 2:44 p.m.

The Clarks Grove Fire Department and Albert Lea Police Department assisted at the scene.

No alcohol was detected, and both occupants were wearing their seat belts.

The second crash took place at 12:42 a.m. today.

From that crash, Brian J. Joynt, 30, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with an injury deemed not life-threatening.

According to the State Patrol, Joynt was driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer north on Interstate 35 when it went over the shoulder and overcorrected into the median, overcorrected and rolled, two miles north of the Clarks Grove exit.

Assisting at the scene were the Ellendale Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.

No alcohol was detected.

Joynt was reportedly wearing his seat belt, according to the State Patrol.
