ST. PAUL — One United South Central wrestler will advance to the semifinals of the state tournament, while another will compete in the consolation bracket.

The Rebels’ Derek Herman went 2-0 Friday at Xcel Energy Center, guaranteeing his place among the top six in his weight class and a chance to continue on in the semifinals Saturday.

In the 170 weight class, Herman won a 7-4 decision over Zumbrota’s Devin Manzy, before dominating Bertha-Hewitt’s Ethan Kimber in a 13-4 major decision. Herman was set to battle Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Ted Androli in semifinal action Saturday.

The Rebels were also represented by Adam Knutson in the state tournament at 145. Knutson won his first bout with a 4-3 decision over Goodhue’s Kaleb O’Reilly, but lost in the quarterfinals to Tom Tellers of  UNC in an 8-3 decision. Knutson set the stage to battle back through wrestlebacks, though, with a 5-3 decision over Eden Valley-Watkins’ Tyler Dockendorf in the consolation quarterfinals. Knutson will need to defeat Adrian’s Logan Rogers in Saturday’s action to place in the top six in his weight class.
