To Sibley Elementary School.thumb.up

Congratulations to the teachers and students at Sibley Elementary, who were highlighted on Friday by a visit from Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius. Sibley in September was designated as a Reward School for the fourth time in five years.

What we think is particularly noteworthy is what Superintendent Mike Funk said during the visit. He pointed out that though the district has high poverty rates and nearly half of the school’s students receive free or reduced lunch, the school still consistently ranks as one of the top schools in the state.

We hope others across the state learn from the school’s success. We are proud to have you in the district.

To plans for new electronic speed limit signs.thumb.up

The Albert Lea City Council on Monday approved

the installation of three dynamic speed limit signs.

The digital signs will post the speed limits of the automobiles that pass and flash if a vehicle is speeding.

Plans are for the signs to be at the following:

• Minnesota Highway 13 near Euclid Avenue

• Westbound on U.S. Highway 65 near Ulstad Avenue

• Westbound on Hammer Road, east of Y.H. Hanson Ave.

We hope these signs help slow drivers down in these areas, and we look forward to seeing them in use.

To all of the area wrestlers who made it to the state wrestling tournament.thumb.up

It’s an exciting time of year for the area, as a total of nine wrestlers from three local schools went to the state tournament this year.

From Albert Lea were Brody Nielsen, Matt Palmer, Garrett Aldrich, Chris Nelson and Zach Glazier.

From USC were Adam Knutson and Derek Herman, and from NRHEG were Cordell Peterson and Wyatt Fitterer.

It is no small feat to go to the state tournament, and we look forward to seeing the results.
