Memorial services for David Edward Loehr, 82, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Niethammer of Salem Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by local serviceman’s organizations. David died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center.
David E. Loehr was born July 26, 1928, to Lauren and Rose (Preston) Loehr in Minneapolis where he grew up. David enlisted in the United States Navy on Aug. 23, 1943, in Miami, Fla. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a Seaman. On Oct. 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Esther Ruth Skatter in Lake Mills, Iowa, at her parents’ home. David worked as a livestock buyer at Wilsons for many years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Later in life David enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his wife, Ruth, and his close friends.
Survivors include his children: Steven Loehr, Craig (Becky) Loehr, Valerie (Bob) Nicolaus and Jennifer Thorup; special family friend, Hal Titus; grandchildren: Justin Larsen, Brandon Larsen, Jordan (Anne McGinnis) Loehr, Jillian Loehr and Cade Thorup; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Sinko and Diane Mitschell; brother, Dan (Dianna) Nelson; sisters-in-law, Mary Nelson, Mildred Olson, Jan Skatter and Hazel Skatter; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; granddaughter, Lindsey (Loehr) Diemer; brother, Murray Nelson; sister, Joann Werner; brothers-in-law, Obert Skatter, James Skatter and Dewitt Olson; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Skatter and Bernice Skatter.
