Solo and ensemble contest results released

Albert Lea High School musicians competed at the Minnesota State High School League Solo and Ensemble contest Jan. 23 at Lakeville South High School. Students sang and played for judges for a score and rating of either fair, good, excellent or superior based upon their performance. Students singing solos and earning superior ratings were Alexis Tasker, Josh Englin, Matthew Tate, Sam Ehrhardt, Travis Nemec, Sydne Reichel, Tianna Abrego, Jack Buendorf, Terri Wolfe, Emma Tewes and Heather Wirkus. Superior performances were a duet of Katie and Anna Boettcher and the chorale.

Soloists with an excellent rating were Noah Iverson, Nathan Hensche, Natalie Weiland, Amy Sanderson, Alec Wendelboe, Ashley Willett, Nikki Bos, Katie Boettcher, Audrey Laite, Jacob Leal, Natalie Day, Caitlynn Blizzard, Dawson Luttrell, Anna Boettcher, Brayden Boettcher, Logan Petersen, Ryan Nelson, Bethany Tennis, Lydia Boorsma, Alexandra Eckstrom, Kendra Manges, Justine Nelson, Liana Schallock and Aaron Zogg. Duets earning excellent were sung by Natalie and Jessica Weiland and by Katie Boettcher and Noah Iverson.

Good rating was given to soloist Kelsey Villarreal.

The following students earned superior ratings on their band solos: Emma Tewes, oboe; Josh Englin, trumpet; Greta Hagen, clarinet; William Kreun, horn; Alana Skarstad, flute; Kendra Manges, flute; Katie Boettcher, flute; Anna Boettcher, clarinet; Natalie Day, clarinet; Jenna Seavey, flute; and Sam Ware, snare drum.

Earning excellent ratings were Carson McGivern, euphonium; Kyle Neidermeier, horn; Jack Buendorf, trumpet; Jens Lange, trumpet; Olivia Stensrud, trombone; Jessica Weiland, flute; and Ehrich Attig, tenor sax. Kelieye Corwin got a good on her clarinet solo and a fair on her bass clarinet solo.

The following students earned superior ratings for various instrumental ensembles: Sam Moyer, Sean Brownlow, Josh Englin, Spencer Chicos, Jonah Walker, Jarrod Guildner, and Darren Guildner.

The following students earned superior ratings on their orchestra solos: Simon Knettig, violin; and Abby Sencio, cello.

Earning excellent ratings were: Sam Cano, violin; Brandon Etherington, cello; Sydney Hagen, violin; Jens Lange, violin; Justine Nelson, violin; and Emily Wangen, violin.

Earning a good or fair ratings were: Terri Wolfe, violin; Abe Peterson, violin; Danaey Castillo, violin; Ashlee Whebbe, violin; Mackenzie Anderson, violin; Dusti Gullickson, violin; Noah Iverson, viola; and Ali Hagen, violin.

The following students earned excellent ratings for various instrumental ensembles: Chamber Orchestra consisting of Simon Knettig, Jens Lange, Morgan Bjorklund, Emily Wangen, Kylie Brown, Brandon Etherington and Parker Jenson, and Lukas Peterson and Brayden Boettcher, Sara Kabrud and Kylie Brown.
