Memorial services for Myron “Mike” Lyle Houg, 80, of Glenville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Daphne Hamborg will officiate. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Glenville at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service to the church. Mike died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea after battling Alzheimer’s disease for five years.
Myron “Mike” Lyle Houg was born April 5, 1935, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, the son of Merton Prescott and Lila Marguerite (Towne) Houg. Mike grew up north of Glenville on the Houg home farm. He attended school in Glenville and graduated from Albert Lea High School. On July 14, 1956, Mike was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Jensen at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Mike farmed until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville, Mid-America Dairymen, DHIA and Midwest Results. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and playing cards at the senior citizens club in Glenville. He enjoyed time with family and friends most of all.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; four children, Connie Houg, Sally (Tim) Houg-Massaro, Judy (Paul) Johns and Johny (Kristin) Houg; grandchildren Carissa and Alexander Massaro, Jeremie Houg, Jessica, Anthony, Bethany and Kristina Johns, and John Dale, Molly, Maverick and Elizabeth Houg; great-grandson, Hunter Houg; brothers Harold (Nancy) Houg and Herb (Pat) Houg; sister-in-law, Janice Houg; goddaughters Susan Haycraft, Lisa (Sharpe) Ward and Jamie Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Houg.
