Tigers compete in conf. tourney

The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ tennis team competed in the Big Nine Conference tournament Monday at the Rochester Outdoor Tennis Center though final team results will not be available until Wednesday.
The Tigers entered the conference tournament tied for ninth with Mankato West and one win behind Austin and Rochester John Marshall.
Singles players Logan Tufte and Trevor Herfindahl lost in the consolation finals at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
The Tigers’ No. 3 doubles team of Tate Tufte and Kyle Zogg earned a No. 4 seed at the tournament but lost in the opening round to Sawyer Bock and Nicholas Ackerman of Rochester Mayo. Tufte and Zogg beat a doubles team from Faribault in the first round of the consolation bracket and beat a Mankato East duo in the consolation semifinals. Tufte and Zogg’s two match winning streak ended in the consolation finals, though, to Ryo Kirihara and Brandon Allen of Rochester John Marshall.
The Tigers open the Section 1AA tournament at 4 p.m. today at Rochester Century.
