New Prague woman accused of causing fatal crash

NEW PRAGUE — A 47-year-old woman is accused of using her cellphone while driving, causing her to kill a man getting his morning newspaper on the outskirts of New Prague.

According to a press release, Susan Ann Russo of New Prague was charged Monday with reckless driving and misuse of a wireless communication device. Seventy-nine-year-old Joseph Tikalsky was killed in the October crash. The longtime school bus driver was between routes.

According to a criminal complaint, the primary factor in the crash was that “Russo was distracted and not paying attention to the roadway ahead of her due to cellphone use.”

The newspaper said Russo declined to comment. It wasn’t immediately clear if she has an attorney.
