MANKATO — Two men are facing multiple drug charges after a police officer checked on an odorous occupied vehicle outside an apartment complex early Sunday morning. One of the men is on probation for prior robbery and drug convictions.

Emmanuel Dak Wal, 22, of Albert Lea and Goamar Tongyik Makuach, 21, of Austin were arrested after a Mankato police officer checked on a vehicle outside Hilltop Lane Apartments at about 3:30 a.m. and smelled marijuana.

According to the criminal complaint, Wal gave a false name and was in possession of a bag that contained 5 ounces of cocaine, a pipe containing marijuana and nearly $4,600 in cash. Three baggies containing a total of 36 grams of marijuana were found inside the vehicle.

Makuach reportedly told a police officer that Wal is a drug dealer and claimed the drugs all belonged to Wal.

Mukuach was charged Monday with multiple felony drug sale and possession charges. Wal was charged Monday with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts of drug sale and drug possession and with a misdemeanor giving false information to police charge.

There is a warrant out for Wal for violating probation terms of a 2015 conviction for felony cocaine sale in Freeborn County. He’s also on probation for a 2013 robbery conviction for robbing two Minnesota State University students at gunpoint.
