Bulldogs blast Forest City in doubleheader

The Lake Mills baseball team swept Forest City Friday in a doubleheader in Forest City.

The 13-2 and 10-5 wins, keep the Bulldogs (18-10, 8-5 NIC) in position to achieve their highest finish in the conference since 2001.

There’s no chance of catching Newman, but a second place finish would be a good way for the seniors to go out, Lake Mills head coach Jason Blaser said.

The Bulldog offense rapped out 14 hits in the first game with four players driving in two or more runs. Royce Byrnes led the attack, going 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Levi Dahle finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Alex Grunhovd went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Drey LyBarger went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Chris Throne got the win, throwing six innings of three-hit ball. He allowed one earned run and struck out four.

The second game was an adventure for the Bulldogs as they battled back from an early 5-1 deficit to win 10-5 in five innings.

With two outs in the fourth inning Scott Abbey drew a walk and the next eight hitters reached base as Lake Mills stormed back to take the lead.

Byrnes capped the inning with a three-run triple for his sixth RBI of the evening.

Lake Mills travels to face Osage Monday in its final conference game of the season.
