District 27A Rep. Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea,  received the GOP endorsement for the District 27A House of Representatives race.

The GOP District 27A convention was Saturday at the American Legion in Albert Lea, and the 57 delegates attending voted unanimously to endorse Bennett.

“Thank you District 27A delegates for your vote of confidence,” Bennett said. “I am humbled and honored by your endorsement.”

Bennett has served District 27A in the Minnesota House of Representatives since her election in 2014, winning with 53 percent of the vote in a three-candidate race. Bennett lists passing nursing home funding reform as one of her proudest accomplishments during her time in the House.  Bennett has also passed legislation for the Caring for the Aging, Retired and Elderly Act; worked toward strengthening the well-being of children as a member of the Legislative Child Protection Task Force ;and championed small business tax reform and job creation measures.

“I’m especially proud of our nursing home funding reform,” Bennett said. “This was a significant need for communities in Greater Minnesota and I was pleased to be part of that much needed piece of legislation.”

“We also passed some important reforms last session to help with job creation in our state, and are continuing to work on more measures this session. Job creation will continue to be a major priority of mine if I am honored with a second term, along with improving our schools, fixing our child protection system, and bettering the lives of our aging loved ones.”

Brian Hensley, chairman of the Freeborn County Republican Party, said voters are lucky to have such a dedicated representative.

“She is approachable, and always willing to listen and learn about an issue that someone cares about,” Hensley said. “:Her commitment to our area’s voters this past year has been unmatched.”

Bennett said she has enjoyed meeting with peopple and hearing their concerns.

“I look forward to continuing that this summer and into fall as I seek reelection,” she said.
