SAUK RAPIDS— A St. Cloud man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for driving drunk and causing the death of a Hibbing couple.
Authorities said Tom Souvannaphong was intoxicated when he ran a red light and struck another vehicle, killing Kevin and Kathy Davey last August near Sauk Rapids.
Souvannaphong pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. Relatives of the couple were in Benton County court Thursday to share their pain and loss before sentencing.
Court records show that Souvannaphong had been convicted of driving drunk in 2014 and was on probation at the time of the crash.
