It was a battle between two left-handed pitchers for the Tigers on the road.
The Red Wings baseball team defeated Albert Lea 2-1 Monday.
Jake Kilby had a dominating performance on the mound for the Tigers, pitching all seven innings of Monday’s game. The senior gave up just two runs on five hits, striking out two while not allowing a single walk.
“Kilby pitched as well as he ever has,” said Albert Lea coach Joe Sczublewski. “He changed speeds and had 10-point control.”
Sczublewski said the game moved fast Monday night, with neither pitcher giving up any walks and neither team committing any errors. Red Wing and Albert Lea each scored a run in the third inning, and kept it close the rest of the game. The Wingers scored their winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
“We had a couple chances we couldn’t capitalize on late in the game,” Sczublewski said.
Mason Hammer had an RBI after batting in Ty Harms for the Tigers’ lone run of the night, while Sczublewski credited Harms and Jake Thompson as being strong defensive forces for the Tigers at third and shortstop.
Next, Albert Lea (2-2 overall, 1-2 Big Nine Conference) will host Owatonna at 5 p.m. today at Hayek Field.
