Roundtable to host speaker

The Cannon Valley Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. May 19 at Faribault Senior Center, 19 W. Division St. in Faribault. There will be questions and answers with decaf coffee and desserts after the presentation.
The presenter will be Steve Chicoine. He is anhistorian and author residing in Eden Prairie. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Stanford University. Among his many books are “Our Hallowed Ground: The World War II Veterans of Fort Snelling National Cemetery,” “John Basil Turchin and the Fight to Free the Slaves” and “The Confederates of Chappell Hill, Texas.”
Chicoine has spent more than a decade researching the veterans in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, the earliest of which date from 1817, having been transferred from the Old Post Cemetery in 1939.
