Tigers boys’ golf moved to 7-1 record

50 years ago: 1966
• The Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team improved to 7-2 for the season with a 338-359 win over Northfield. Scores for the Tigers were Don Nolander (83), Steve Rheaume (84), Bob Oothoudt (85) and Floyd Harves (86).
• Setting a new ALHS record in the two-mile relay was the team of Gerald Roth, Lawrence Louters, Shannon McCoul and Mark Mondeel in the Tigers’ 64-59 victory over the Rochester Rockets. Other first-place finishes for the Tigers were Craig Pederson in the 100-yard dash,Terry Gilbertson in the 120-yard high hurdles and the broad jump and Darrel Gavle in the shot put.
• Louie Gueltzow, Larry Wilder and Doug Johnson led ALHS with two hits each in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over Mankato.
25 years ago: 1991
• The ALHS girls’ softball team defeated Mankato West 5-4 for their first win of the season. Julie Mullenbach was the winning pitcher.
• Fountain Industries won the 1990-91 Albert Lea Laker League volleyball title. Team members were Kevin Herbst, Mike Bennett, Kelvin Rehnelt, Jim Thompson, Tony Rogness, Richard Murray, Mike Lindberg and Pete Templeman.
• The ALHS boys’ golf team shot 311 and defeated Winona 316 and Mankato East 343 in a triangular match and raised their season mark to 7-1. Scores for the Tigers were Todd Intihar (76), Phil Schmidt and Chad Holtan (78) and Kevin Blair (79).
• Chad Bohonek won the 100-and 200-meter dashes for the ALHS boys’ track team as they won the Section 2 True Team title and advanced to the Minnesota state tournament.
10 years ago: 2006
• The United South Central girls’ golf team defeated Fairmont 391-387 and remained undefeated at 8-0. The Rebels scores were Tiffany Adams (90), (medalist), Kelsey Tredtow (97), Cassie Wood (99) and Marie Halvorson (101).
• Winning pitcher Nick Bunz of the ALHS baseball team drove in five runs in the Tigers 8-6 victory over Winona. Matt Schumann and Arik Matson each had two hits for the Tigers.
