MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota DFLers are taking aim at presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at their state convention in Minneapolis.
DFL leaders warned party activists at the one-day convention on Saturday that divisions among Democrats could hurt the party in the November elections.
Gov. Mark Dayton was interrupted briefly by chants from supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders when he said he is supporting Hillary Clinton for president. Dayton told Sanders’ supporters that he admires their passion and support of him.
Sanders won Minnesota’s caucuses in March.
DFL State Party Chair Ken Martin told convention-goers that a Trump presidency would endanger Democrats’ achievements.
Since there are no statewide offices on the ballot this year, the state convention will focus on electing delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
