Five Albert Lea High School students were recognized on Monday for completion of the Minnesota Department of Education Youth Apprenticeship program.

The school class includes more than 450 hours of paid work, safety training, employability and job search basics, as well as an industry-specific curriculum/skills checklist.

Each student works under direct supervision of a mentor and specific company trainers to attain skills competency in an on-the-job training setting. According to a press release, this is the fourth school year that Albert Lea High School has been offering the program.

Graduates included Tanner Alfson, who completed an apprenticeship at Alamco Wood Products; Kelieye Corwin, who completed an apprenticeship at Interstate Molding & Manufacturing; Jarod Martin, who completed an apprenticeship at Titan Machinery; Tyler Habana, who completed an apprenticeship at Lou-Rich, and Hunter Darbo, who completed an apprenticeship at Edwards Manufacturing.

The students were joined by family, friends, school staff and community members, as well as representatives of their worksite to recognize their accomplishments.
