The Crossroads of Destruction demolition derby recently took place at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in Albert Lea.
According to a press release, the event sponsor, Masters of Disaster, was also thinking of the needs of the people in the community. Event vendor Elvis Thumb of North Dakota donated a slider driver shaft for a raffle on the condition that the proceeds were donated to help cancer patients in the Albert Lea area.
Event coordinators Paul and Heather Nielsen and Matt and Lisa Ertman raised $1,000 from the raffle.
Masters of Disaster then contacted Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin and donated the funds to the Albert Lea Cancer Center for a remodel project that will enhance the patients’ experience at the facility.
Albert Lea Cancer Center managers Kellie Peterson and Jenni Mattson, along with other cancer center staff, were able to meet the Nielsen’s and thank them and their partners for the donation.
