• Gerald Walcholz singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for Hayward in its 8-7 win over Alden in an amateur State Line League baseball game. Neal Skaar was the winning pitcher.
• The Jaycees raised their Albert Lea Slowpitch American Division record to 9-0 with a 12-0 victory over Interstate Power. Hugh Hall threw a no-hitter and Dick Kogel hit a grand slam homer for the winners.
• Jack Lehman had three hits and two home runs to lead the Trades & Labor team to an 18-2 win against First Federal in an Albert Lea Slowpitch League game. Paul Pierson had two home runs and Ray Sorenson hit a grand slam homer for Trades.
25 years ago: 1991
• The Alden American Legion baseball team defeated Glenville-Emmons 6-5 in a 5 Star League baseball game. Tom Keating picked up the win.
• Joe Sczublewski pitched a shutout for the Albert Lea Colonel’s in their 5-0 baseball win over Dundas. The Colonels improved to 10-8 for the season.
• The Albert Lea VFW baseball team improved to 12-10 overall and 5-6 in the league after defeating Owatonna 11-3. Dan Willmert was the winning pitcher and Lee Kuiters, Tim Hanson and Cazzie Walcholz each had two hits for Albert Lea.
10 years ago: 2006
• Named the Albert Lea Tribune All-Area High School Baseball Coach of the Year was Faron Bremseth of Alden-Conger. Named the A.L. All-Area High School Baseball Player of the Year was Josh Churchill of NRHEG.
Named to the first team were Churchill and Terry Somage of NRHEG, Arik Matson and Nick Bunz of Albert Lea and Justn Flattum of Glenville-Emmons. Named to the second team were Joe McGore of NRHEG, Ben Berhow of AL, Matt Bremseth of A-C, Wade Flattum of G-E and Jake Bonsack of United South Central. Named to the third team were Dakota Tracy of NRHEG, Josh Jordahl of AL, Michael Griebrok of G-E, Greg Opseth of A-C and Derek Schmidt of USC.
