To Albert Lea High School graduate Lindsey Horejsi.thumb.up

All eyes from Albert Lea will be on Albert Lea High School graduate Lindsey Horejsi this week as she competes in the Olympic trials in Omaha, Nebraska. She will compete in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. Horejsi last November set a national high school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, and we are excited to cheer her on at this level. This will be her second time competing to go to the Olympics. Tribune photographer Colleen Harrison will be in attendance starting Tuesday, so look to the Tribune for coverage. Good luck, Lindsey!

To the dedication of the Shell Rock River Water Trail.thumb.up

Local and state officials gathered at Frank Hall Park Saturday to celebrate the dedication of the Shell Rock River Water Trail.

The 25-mile water trail begins at the north end of Fountain Lake in Edgewater Bay and winds through Fountain and Albert Lea lakes until reaching the mouth of the Shell Rock River at the Albert Lea Lake dam. From there, the trail follows the river until it reaches the Iowa border. It passes by the Blue Zones Walking Trail, the Blazing Star Landing, a boat launch and backpack sites at Myre-Big Island State Park, among others.

Thanks for all the people who have been involved in this effort. This will be a great attraction, not only to our community but to Minnesota.

Look to the Tribune on Monday for coverage.

To the announcement that another Level 3 offender is living in the community. thumb.down

The Albert Lea Police Department on Thursday announced that a new Level 3 offender is living in Albert Lea. Sadik Yasin Hussein, 31, is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 167 pounds. Police listed Hussein as homeless but also listed the address of Mill Street and Euclid Avenue.

Hussein reportedly sexually assaulted an adult female victim in Rochester.

According to the state classification system, he has the highest likelihood of reoffending.

We encourage all residents to educate yourselves and your children about the high-risk offenders living in the community. There are presently seven. We encourage you to report any suspicious activity. Also, remember that the victims of most sexual assaults know their attacker.
