Annual Ride for Hope scheduled

The Wenger Corporation and the Owatonna Eagles are sponsoring the eighth annual “Ride for Hope” on July 9. More than 150 motorcyclists are expected to participate in the fundraiser, which departs at 10 a.m. from the Eagles Club in Owatonna. Riders will be raising money for five charities while touring scenic southern Minnesota.
The drive will go through Mankato, Eagle Lake, Minnesota Lake, Twin Lakes, Glenville and Blooming Prairie. Lunch will be at the Great Escape Bar and Grill in Minnesota Lake.
According to a press release, more than 30 businesses and individuals have donated over $3,000 in prizes for the raffle, which will take place after the ride Prizes include a flat screen television, Red Wing motorcycle boots, a kayak, gift baskets, hotel stays and gift certificates, among others.
There will be prizes awarded for the oldest bike and for the rider who travels the farthest distance to attend the event.
Riders are asked to donate $20 per driver and $5 per passenger and can choose from one of five charities they would like their donation to benefit. The five charities for riders to choose from include Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Eagles Cancer Telethon, Eagles Diabetes Research Center, Open Arms Suicide Prevention Program or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
Last year’s event raised over $10,000 for charity. Organizers hope to raise $12,000 this year.
