Canterbury Park cancels racing Thursday due to heat

Canterbury Park officials are canceling Thursday’s live racing because of the extreme heat.

Canterbury president Randy Sampson cites the health and safety of horses and jockeys. He says the Shakopee (SHAH’-kuh-pee) track also does not want to inconvenience race fans with a last-minute decision.

Sampson says Canterbury Park consulted with chief state veterinarian Lynn Hovda before deciding to cancel the race card Thursday. Forecasts call for a heat index of more than 110 degrees.
