To volunteers and groups who helped make Albert Lea Floats successful.
Albert Lea can do some pretty awesome things when organizations and groups come together for a cause. That’s what happened on Saturday with Albert Lea Floats, an event where people are encouraged to come out and enjoy time on Albert Lea Lake by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddle board — all free of charge. Thanks to the Albert Lea Lakes Foundation, the city of Albert Lea, the Shell Rock River Watershed District, Albert Lea Community Education and Cargill for this fun event.
To the crowding at the Freeborn County Humane Society.
If you’re looking at getting a new pet, look no further than the Freeborn County Humane Society, which is filled with animals right now. The organization posted on its Facebook page Thursday that it has 21 kittens and 42 adult cats. For those of you who already have pets, please practice responsible pet ownership. Please spay and neuter your animals.
To the 10th annual Doggie Dip.
The Albert Lea city pool closed for the season today, and with that, the 10th annual Doggie Dip is slated for Monday. On that day, the pool will be open to dogs and their owners from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dogs must have proof of current vaccination, and the fee to enter is $4, which includes a dog and two human companions. The event is organized by the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department, and donations will be collected for the Humane Society.
To the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award winners.
The Education Foundation of Albert Lea has announced the recipients of the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award. Recipients will be recognized in a special celebration Sept. 8 at Wedgewood Cove. Congratulations in advance to Elmer Peterson, James Horgen, Bruce A. Peterson and Nancy Ophaug Beers.
