Cargill and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union recently announced the opening of the company’s fourth near-site health center operated by Marathon Health.

Clinicians at the health center will provide accessible and affordable health care to UFCW members who work at Cargill’s meat processing plant in Albert Lea. Their dependents will also be able to access health care at the center. The health center will serve nearly 200 families with a physician, a nurse practitioner, and a licensed practical nurse.

The forward-looking health partnership between Cargill, UFCW, and Marathon Health will make it easier for everyone who works at the meat processing plant in Albert Lea to be more healthy and productive.

“We are incredibly excited to offer our near-site health clinic as a benefit for our team,” said Kevin Saxton, general manager at Cargill’s Albert Lea facility.  “A Cargill priority is ‘nourishing generations,’ including those who produce wholesome protein products, and their families.  An important component of this is providing a convenient healthcare option as we encourage preventative care and wellness for those who will have access to this new center.”

“I’m proud that my union could come together with Cargill to find a solution where we all win. This new clinic will benefit our plant and everyone who works hard inside of it by saving money on out-of-pocket expenses and rising health care costs,” said Dan Urschitz, a worker and union steward at Cargill’s meat processing plant in Albert Lea and a member of UFCW Local 6. “It was important to us that workers from all shifts would be able to take advantage of this clinic; and the clinic’s flexible hours and location just a mile from the plant keep it accessible to all of our hardworking coworkers and our families.”

The Marathon Health centers will empower Cargill employees to take active roles in their own health by providing convenient access to high-quality care and preventive health screenings, education about health risks, and tools and support to address individual health concerns. Personal health information from services received from Marathon Health is completely confidential and will not be shared with Cargill. Marathon Health currently operates health centers for Cargill in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and Fort Worth and Friona, Texas.
