Albert Lea Art Center to host special event

Noted portrait artist Rose Frantzen of Maquoketa, Iowa, will be the featured presenter at the seventh annual Albert Lea Art Center event Celebrating the Art and Artists from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 23 at Wedgewood Cove.

According to a press release, Albert Lea Art Center volunteers have chosen the theme of a night with wine and rose for its annual fundraising event which will include the featured exhibit, refreshments, wine tasting, live and silent auctions and door prizes.

A special attraction will be Frantzen demonstrating and painting a portrait alla prima — which means done in one setting.

Tickets for the event are $20 and are available at the art center and from volunteers. As a special feature, a local resident will win a chance to have a portrait painted at the event by purchasing a $10 raffle ticket. For more information, call the Albert Lea Art Center at 507-373-5665.

Frantzen attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago  and furthered her study at Palette and Chisel Academy and Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. In 2009, Frantzen’s Portrait of Maquoketa exhibit was displayed at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and last year she won fourth prize in an international portrait competition.

According to a press release, Frantzen has built a successful career selling her paintings in galleries throughout the United States. She works out of Old City Hall Gallery in Maquoketa.
