WAITE PARK — Authorities suspect arson in a central Minnesota apartment fire that forced some tenants to jump from windows to safety.
The fire broke out late Monday morning in the Sundial IV apartment complex in Waite Park, near St. Cloud.
Fire Chief Jim Aleshire says the fire forced some parents to throw their children to safety from second- and third-story windows. Many residents also jumped, and some tenants were rescued with fire truck ladders. Five people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
According to a press release, the apartment complex sustained significant damage. The American Red Cross is helping 41 displaced residents.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Waite Park Police are asking for help finding whoever started the fire.
