To all of the area centenarians.thumb.up

Congratulations to all of the residents from Freeborn County who have turned 100 in the last few months. It seems like there have been several, and it is exciting to see. These people are full of wisdom, and they have experienced more than the rest of us can comprehend. We wish you the best into the future.

To the repeal of the downtown parking maintenance district.thumb.up

The Albert Lea City Council made a wise vote on Monday with the repeal of the downtown parking maintenance district. Previously, downtown business owners were charged an annual fee for things such as street sweeping, garbage pickup, lighting and other work. In the future, the city will support these efforts through the general fund or other revenue options.

We hope downtown business owners see this as a vote of support for them.

To people stealing political signs.thumb.down

There have been several instances in the last few weeks of political signs stolen from yards of homes in Albert Lea. We remind residents that people could potentially be charged for misdemeanor theft or trespassing for stealing signs. If signs are vandalized, there could be potential charges for criminal damage to property.

To Albert Lea School District teachers.thumb.up

It was great this week to see how excited the teachers were across the district for a new school year. Having excited teachers helps the children get motivated to learn and to be at school. Teachers put in a lot of work both in and out of the classroom to make the classes for our children the best they can be. Thank you for your dedication to your jobs and your students. We hope everyone has a successful year.

To Albert Lea magazine’s 10th anniversary.thumb.up

Albert Lea magazine is celebrating its 10th anniversary in its latest issue available now. The magazine started as Southern Minnesota magazine, a joint effort between staff of the Albert Lea Tribune and Austin Daily Herald, until 2013 when it expanded into what is now known as Albert Lea magazine and Austin Living. We appreciate the support we have received over the years and for those of us who have allowed us into your homes and families. We look forward to the next 10 years, as we meet more people in this great community of Albert Lea.
