Coming off an impressive victory against Owatonna Tuesday night, the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team was back on the pitch against Rochester Century Thursday night.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, they lost a close one in overtime, 2-1.
Eighth-grader Lucy Sherman scored her second goal of the season of an Ella Zelenak free kick in the first half.
Moments later, Rochester Century would tie the game.
The two teams played a scoreless second half.
Both teams also held one another scoreless in first five-minute session of overtime. However, 2:15 into the second overtime, Rochester Century found the back of the net to end the game.
“The game as a whole was very physical,” said Tigers coach Laura Wangen. “It was a back and forth battle. As a coaching staff, we are proud of the team’s efforts.”
Albert Lea has a busy week upcoming with three matches.
It will host Fairmont Monday.
Start time for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
