Kim Nelson is the executive director of the Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library and Village, 1031 Bridge Ave.

The museum is full of activity this September! We are gearing up for Autumn in the Village, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. We will showcase our village to include old fashion photos, woodworking, live music and wagon rides. Exhibits and demonstrations on corn grinding, rope making, weaving, spinning and hardanger will be going on all day! The food is always a highlight for the visitors that day. We will feature crumble

burgers, hot dogs, apple pie, ice cream and the ever-popular Sarsaparilla. Admission is $7.50 for adults, students 12-18 are $2 and members/children 11 and under are free. It is good to note that this event is on a Saturday this year instead of a Sunday, and we have extended the hours to accommodate more families.

September is also our membership renewal/sign up month. If you purchase a membership for 2017 this month, the membership would be good September 2016 through December 2017. What a deal! A family membership is just $35 for the whole year. This membership includes anyone in your household. Think about what you spend $35 on; think about spending $35 on a membership to the museum for 2017. We also offer other membership rates from $25 to $1,000. Please contact me to learn more about the different levels of membership.

We continue to host defensive driving classes at the museum. This month we are offering two classes, the first class is a four-hour refresher class from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 22. The other defensive driving class we offer is the initial eight-hour class from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept 24. Please contact the museum at 373-8003 for more information on these and any further classes.

Remember to check us out on Facebook and make sure to follow us to get updates on the museum. Also, you can hear me on KATE radio every Sunday morning for updates from the museum. I love visitors, too, so come on in and see me; we are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
