50 years ago: 1966

• The Wells High School football team defeated Austin Pacelli 39-20. The Wildcats were led by Bob Prange with three touchdowns and Gene Hassing with two more.

• The Albert Lea High School and Rochester John Marshall football teams finished the game with a tie 19-19. Scoring touchdowns for the Tigers were Jay Gustafson, Jim Nelson and John Vollum.

• The ALHS boys cross country team won their match with a 15-45 score. The Tigers Brendon O’Brien finished first, Jim Parry second, Larry Louters third, Jim Peterson fourth and Jerald Roth fifth.

25 years ago: 1991

• The ALHS volleyball team shut out Austin 3-0 by scores of 15-12, 15-12 and 15-8. Laura Bisek had 24 kills and Julie Vanderploeg added seven kills for Albert Lea.

• Northwood-Kensett defeated Lake Mills 18-6 for their first football win of the season in the North Iowa Conference. Mark Barttels had 16 tackles for the Bulldogs. 

• The Austin High School football team raised their season record to 4-0 and ALHS fell to 0-4 after the Packers won defeated the Tigers 20-0. The Tiger defense was led by Reid Olson with 16 tackles and Jason Giolderhus with 14.

• In a high-scoring high school football game Alden-Conger defeated Lyle 40-24. Kris Johannsen scored four touchdowns, Tommy Roessler and Mike Mattson one each for A-C.

10 years ago: 2006

• Northwood-Kensett remained undefeated at 3-0 with a 28-14 football victory over West Bend-Mallard. The Vikings Tyler Stading scored three touchdowns, gained 140 yards rushing and had 19 tackles.

• The Jensen Seed team won the Clarks Grove Golf Course men’s title. Team members were Jack Jensen, Chuck Brua, Clarence Beenken, Vic Glantz, Randy Hudson, Dick Highulm and Kurt Biesterfield.

• The ALHS girls soccer team shut out Fairmont 4-0 and then won their second match of the day 5-1 over Worthington. Sophie Miller scored two goals, Whitney Wilson and Leah Walters one each against Fairmont. Wilson scored three goals, Mariah Maras and Beth Niebuhr one each in the second game.
