Coming off losses to three Rochester schools, the Albert Lea volleyball team was looking to get back on track, as it traveled to Red Wing Tuesday night.

It wasn’t an easy victory, but it was a victory nonetheless, as the Tigers took down the Wingers in five sets.

After winning the first set, the Tigers dropped the next two sets. A fierce rally to win the fourth set, 25-20, setup a fifth and deciding set, in which the Tigers won, 15-11 and moved to 2-3 in the Big Nine Conference standings.

Tigers head coach Cathy Baumann was pleased with her team’s performance, as they have worked some new players into the rotation.

“We have worked Kailey VanRiper and Jenna Seavey into our left side, and they have been doing a fantastic job,” said Baumann. ‘The girls played with a lot of conviction, and our back row really stepped up in this victory. Offensively, our hitters mixed it up and kept (Red Wing) off balance and confused on defense. It certainly is a great start to our week.”

Bethany Tennis went 44-48 on passing and Camryn Keyeski was 25-26 on passing, too. Keyeski also led the Tigers with 12 kills and Sarah DeHaan finished with 10.

Paige Landsman notched 23 assists and Mikaela Pannkuk tallied 21.

Albert Lea will continue its roadtrip when it heads to Winona Thursday.

Start time for the match is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
